Maple Woods Photography

Today, someone asked me why I decided to go with Maple Woods Photography instead of Sara Borchert Photography or something with my name.

I decided to share with you the story behind the name.

My family's farm is Maple Woods Century Farm.
We traced our family's farm back to 1906 with our own records, but it dates back even further with county records. We were inducted into th Century Farm program which is headed by MN Farm Bureau and the Minnesota State Fair Agriculture Dept. in 2006 in a ceremony at the Rice County Fair.

Most of you know that my father passed away in April of 2009. Every time I think of him, I think of Maple Trees. He always loved the way they changed colors in the fall and his favorite was a big Maple right in our front yard that has been there probably since 1906, if not before.
He was an avid Maple Syrup maker and loved to build many things out of his own maple logs cut from our woods.

The name of my business is in honor of my Dad, who named our farm Maple Woods Century Farm. I wanted to continue on the tradition of that name, even if the farm doesn't continue.

My main focus is outdoor photos and with the beautiful woods full of Maple Trees surrounding my house, Maple Woods Photography just seemed fitting.

Kristian and Brandon

I got to work with Kristian, Brandon and soon to be baby Tonya this weekend!
It was bitterly cold out so we did some inside shots. This can sometimes limit a photo shoot, but I am pretty pleased with the results!
I've known Kristian since freshman year of high school, so for her already to be having a baby just reminds me of our ages and that we are all growing up.
It was a fun, care free photo shoot. Here are a few of my favorite shots! :)

Lola Ruth 2009

I had the opportunity to photograph my co-worker's little girl Lola. She is so adorable! She had on such a cute coat and boots to tromp through all the fresh snow fall! I took some family pics of Amy, Richard and Lola too! I'm really happy with the way they turned out!

Lola looks just like a little snow angel :)

Christmas

I am one of those people that has a pet peeve with saying Happy Holidays. I am strictly a Merry Christmas kind of person. So when I set out to do my Christmas Cards this year, finding cards that actually said Merry Christmas was extremely difficult. I try to make a point of always saying Merry Christmas because that is what I celebrate, Christmas. In the end, none of the presents matter, just being with your family and celebrating the birth of our savior is what is important.

So from myself, my boyfriend, and my puppy Rugby, we wish you all a
Merry Christmas 2009 and many blessings in the New Year.

Hewitt Photo Shoot

I decided I have to start getting down to business and order these photos so they get here in time for Christmas!
I had fun enhancing color, and I did a collage with a couple different effects to make it look like they came right out of that 1950's camera.
Now time to send them off to the printing company to get printed!
Thank you again to Beth, Heather, Mark & Ray for working with me :)

Hewitt Photo Shoot Beginnings

These are just a few of the photos I have edited from the Hewitt's Photo Shoot.
Mark, Beth, Ray and Heather braved the cold, early morning weather for me! They were troopers :)
I decided to take photos for a Christmas gift for Mark's Mom and Dad and Grandma.
I will post more as I work on getting them all edited. Right now I am trying to focus on school work and studying for finals, but this is a nice distraction!

Editing Fun

Sometimes the best photos are the ones that capture a single moment. This is one of my brother and his daughter on Halloween. She was an angel, and like any good angel she was giving out lots of kisses to her Dad. I did some editing fun with the photo to rev it up a bit!
